TOP 10 PRINT QUESTIONS FOR BETTER RESULTS

Our customer service team talks to thousands of customers every year, each with their own needs and questions. But many of them get stuck on the same issues. To help you out, we’ve put together the top 10 most common questions we receive, along with the answers. Dive in and make your print journey smoother!

1. How can I ensure my colors print accurately?

Make sure your design files are in CMYK color mode, as this is what printers use. Also, consider doing a test print or getting a print proof to check the colors before printing a large batch.

2. What’s the best way to prepare my files for printing?

Use high-resolution images (300 DPI or higher), ensure all text is embedded or converted to outlines, and include bleed areas if your design goes to the edge of the paper. Double-check your file format requirements with your printer.

3. How do I choose the right binding for my booklet?

The choice depends on the size and purpose of your booklet. Saddle stitching is ideal for smaller booklets, while perfect binding offers a professional look for thicker books. Spiral binding is durable and allows the booklet to lay flat when open.

4. What are bleed and safe zones in printing?

Bleed is the extra area beyond the trim line that ensures your design extends to the edge after cutting. The safe zone is the area inside the trim line where important elements like text and logos should be placed to avoid being cut off.

5. What’s the turnaround time for a print job?

Turnaround time varies based on the complexity and volume of the job. Standard jobs typically take a few days, but rush options are often available if you need your prints sooner.

6. What is the best paper to print on?

It depends on how you’ll use the print, who will see it, and your budget. One Step Print has many types of paper in different finishes to fit different budgets. Our team can help you choose the best option for your needs. We can also send you a sample pack so you can see and feel the paper options yourself.

7. Why did my artwork slightly shift when printed?

Artwork can move up to 1/16″ during production, and exact cutting can’t be guaranteed due to gang printing. Cards may be cut up to the safety line, as shown in our templates and bleed guidelines. We recommend avoiding borders in your artwork, as even a small shift can make the borders look uneven.

8. Can we print the file as-is even if it’s not set up correctly?

Usually, the answer is “no.” If files aren’t set up correctly, our production team will likely send them back, causing delays. We can’t offer reprints if customers proceed with incorrect files and are unhappy with the results. It’s best to submit the files as needed. Don’t worry—our processing team can help identify issues with your artwork. If you can’t fix the files yourself, our One Step Print Design Team can provide a quote to make the edits for you.

9. Can you edit my .jpg or .png file?

Different file types offer different levels of editability. For example, jpeg or png files are flat images with no layers, making them hard to adjust. The ease of making changes depends on the project’s complexity, such as whether the design is busy or if there are photos or textures. The resolution of the file also matters. It’s best to send us the most editable version you have so we can make necessary changes without affecting the rest of the design.

10. Can I get a sample before placing a large order?

Yes, we offer samples or proofs before you place a large order. This lets you review the quality of the print and make any adjustments needed. By getting a sample, you can see how your design looks in print, check colors, and ensure everything meets your expectations. This way, you can make any necessary changes before committing to a larger print run, ensuring that you’re completely satisfied with the final product.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re here to help and ensure your prints turn out just right.
